Sapphires have been mined in Australia for over 100 years. The Sapphires sold commercially as Australian Blue Sapphires are recognisable because of the beautiful mid to dark navy blue colour. What is not widely known is that it is not just navy blue Sapphires that are mined in Australia but a wide variety of colours. This includes bright, vibrant blue Sapphires that are comparable to the fine quality of Ceylon and Thai Sapphires. These Sapphires are often some of the finest Sapphires mined in Australia. Unfortunately they have been occasionally sold as Ceylon and Thai Sapphires for a premium price, leading to the misconception that Sapphires mined in Australia are of inferior quality.
