It shows a perfect shade of Emerald green color when placed under strong transmitted light around the outside edges of the cabochon giving it a very rare halo appearance. Under normal overhead lighting, the Pendant appears a near perfect uniform, dark-shiny satin black with just the slightest inclusions on the back side. 

This high quality of translucent black jadeite or "Inky Jade", " Ink Cui" in this huge of size makes this piece of Omphacite jadeite a collectors' grade piece, considered to be a wise investment in the current world economy. 

This style of Omphacite Jade shows a dark center with incredible illuminated green edges around the periphery which although at first glance looks to be less translucent than most pieces, but upon closer inspection shows this material to be of the finest grade Omphacite Jadeite, showing true black even in direct sunlight. 

Due to the thickness of this Cabochon and the deep black appearance of the material it gives what is known in Chinese as an "Egg Noodle Style". Background :

Far rarer than both diamonds and rubies is that of Imperial Translucent Black Omphacite-Jadeite Jade. Only a fraction of the jadeite found in Myanmar is black of which only about 5% is of a fine enough texture that it could be made into jewelry (cabochons). Of that 5% of jewelry quality black jadeite found in Myanmar, only about 1% is translucent in nature and will turn a brilliant imperial green when put under a transmitted light source.

Considered extremely rare in the current world market, Imperial Translucent Black Omphacite-Jadeite Jade is a unique stone to possess. It is said that this type of Jadeite takes at least 3 times longer to form (300 million years) than jadeite of other colors making the presence of this stone very limited, only found randomly in small amounts.
