World-Class, Extremely Rare, Collectors' Grade, 8.45 ct. Natural Unheated/ Untreated Rough, Intact Double Terminated, Ceylon Sapphire Crystal from Sri Lanka 

This rare rough sapphire crystal from Sri Lanka (Ceylon) is a magnificent specimen for the most prestigeous of gem collections. It possesses a gorgeous strong blue color with great uniformity and wonderful color banding. 

This crystal exhibits exceptional translucency while still maintaining a deep blue color which is rare as well as the yellow sapphire inclusion material in the exact center of the crystal. Many aspects account to make this particular specimen a world-class piece.

This crystal is rare due to its fully intact double termination feature occurring rarely in sapphire crystals with this degree of translucency. 

Original unheated/untreated from the ancient river beds buried deep in the Sri Lankan countryside, this magical crystal possesses both blue and yellow Sapphire (Corundum) within the crystal in perfect uniformity towards both terminated ends with the yellow in the center.

This special crystal is Gem quality but due to its unique banding of blue and yellow colors, it was never cut and is worth more as a crystal specimen than it would be as a faceted stone if it were cut.

Due to certain export regulations in Sri Lanka, rough sapphire crystals are not normally allowed for exporting, permitting only cut and carved stones for export. This stone was acquired through a gem crystal specialist who traveled to Sri Lanka regularly and obtained special export permits for each crystal, something that is normally very difficult to do unless you buy in large parcels.

This stone is unheated/untreated making it very rare and valuable considering that 99% of ruby/sapphires (Corundum) are heated or treated in some way in today's gem market.

Due to the rarity of this stone, and the absolutely gorgeous translucent double-terminated crystal structure it would be advised not to use this stone for cutting or jewelry and instead to keep it as a crystal specimen, as this is a very rare, collectors' stone.
